Two Selves

This painting is a reinterpretation of Frida Kahlo’s The Two Fridas (1939), a piece I’ve always felt deeply connected to. I view Kahlo’s work as a representation of her Mexican and European identities feeding into one another. As a woman of both Mexican and European heritage, I believe that these two aspects of identity should not be divided but embraced to fully realize oneself. I recreated this piece using myself as the subject, and I chose a loose representation to reflect my own ongoing journey toward self-acceptance and unity.
